I love carving spoons! There is nothing like transforming a fallen tree into a lovely implement that can be enjoyed each day.  The spoons pictured here are called a "Pocket Spoons", based on their size and design. They are hand-carved in the traditional way using axe and knife. The birch they are made from is sustainably harvested from the boreal forests of northern Canada. The wood-tattooing (the triangle-shaped engraving) is known as Kolrosing. Originally used to decorate Scandinavian spoons, these engravings are etched into the wood with a  small blade and then packed with fresh coffee grounds for color.
